The available implants, both saline and silicone are manufactured. You will only need to replace them if there is a problem, or if you decide you want to change to a different size.  A frequently asked question is if breast implants will interfere with breastfeeding. The answer is no, as the implants are placed under the muscle. They should not interfere with the “plumbing” needed for breastfeeding.

Women may be concerned about implant leaks or breaks. Dr. Bond advises her patients that there is a possibility of a leakage but implants come with a lifetime warranty for replacement of the pair if they rupture or deflate. If the saline leaks into the body, it is completely safe. If you suspect that your gel implant is leaking, your doctor can request an MRI to find out. The percentage of deflation in both types of implants is very small.

MENTOR® Breast Implants are guaranteed for a patient’s lifetime. All recipients of MENTOR® Breast Implants are automatically enrolled in the MENTORPromise® Protection Plan. If a confirmed rupture or deflation occurs, the patient will receive up to two replacement breast implants of the same style or like style at no additional charge for the lifetime of the patient. If a rupture occurs within 10 years of surgery, the patient may also be eligible for financial assistance for surgical costs not covered by insurance. Additional complications are also covered for 10 years with free product replacement. Implantation of the MENTOR® Breast Implants, as well as any subsequent procedures, must be in accordance with current Mentor Product literature and accepted plastic surgical procedures by appropriately qualified licensed physicians for product to qualify for replacement under the Mentor Product Replacement Policy.”

Dr. Bond reassures her patients that breast implants are safe and FDA-approved. Breast augmentation procedures have been very popular for years and hundreds of thousands of women have had successful breast augmentations.

The 2019 concerns about safety issues surrounding breasts implants are primarily trying to reignite issues that pretty much had been resolved in the late 1990s after the 1992, so called, “Breast Implant Scare”.According to patient safety guidelines from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, “the current lifetime risk of BIA-ALCL (BIA, Breast Implant Associated) is estimated to be 1:3817 – 1:30,000 women with textured implants based upon current confirmed cases and textured implant sales data over the past two decades.” Only 16 people worldwide have died from breast implant associated ALCL! As you can compare this number of cases to the total number of augmentations and reconstructions ALCL is extremely rare. Also, when diagnosed early, BIA-ALCL is usually curable.

Another consideration, highly textured implants are rarely used in augmentation in the US and one manufacturer (Allergan^®) voluntarily removed them altogether from the European Market.

Breast augmentation typically takes about two hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia in a fully accredited outpatient surgical center. Breast augmentation involves many different options and techniques. The implants can be inserted through an incision under the breast fold, or through the areolar, or through the armpit. Breast implants are now available in both saline and the FDA-approved silicone. Implants are placed under the muscle to produce a natural look with less potential to sag and interfere with breastfeeding or future mammograms. Since the implant is under the muscle, the augmented breasts will look just like an enhanced version of your own.

Dr. Bonds advises patients that the scar is about 2 inches long and will be hidden under the breast fold.”

After surgery, patients often feel somewhat sore, tired and stiff, which can last for several days*. Some degree of discomfort is usually experienced because the procedure stretches the tissues. Prescribed pain medication can help alleviate any discomfort you experience. Dr. Sheila Bond may also request that you keep your arm extensions to a minimum, raising your elbows no higher than your armpit and no heavy lifting for three weeks after surgery.

A week after surgery, any bandages that were applied are usually removed. Patients are required to wear a support bra or compression bandage to help support and position the breasts. Sutures are dissolvable and do not need to be removed.

Initially, the breasts may feel tight as the skin adjusts to the new breast size, and the breasts themselves may seem hard at first, though they do soften in time. Swelling is common and usually begins to decrease within a few weeks*. Increased sensitivity to physical contact of the breasts may occur for a month or longer. The scars will be red right after surgery, but will eventually fade.

Immediately after your breast augmentation procedure you should avoid underwire bras as they may irritate the incision from the surgery. After you’re healed you can wear any type of bra you choose.

The amount of time it takes to recover will be different for each patient. However, most patients find that they can return to work a week after surgery.”

A. By creating one or several small openings in the skin, a laser-tipped cannula is then inserted underneath the skin. Using a back and forth motion, the cannula delivers the laser’s energy to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and drain away.

A. Pain is very minimal; local anesthetics are used during the procedure and post-surgical discomfort is usually controlled with ice and/or Tylenol.

A. Typically, patients are up and around the day after the procedure. Patients must be willing to wear a compression garment after the operation for several days to several weeks, depending on the areas treated. It is also recommended to stay away from hot tubs and strenuous exercise for two weeks. Normal activity can be resumed in several days*.

A. For most patients, typically only one treatment is required. The session may last from 45 minutes to one hour for each area treated, hence the term “Lunchtime Lipo.”

A. Yes! Adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, the fat cells expand. SmartLipo® greatly reduces the fat cells. Should you gain weight, most fat will be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.

A. SmartLipo® is not effective on large areas of fat, such as an abdomen or back. As with any surgical procedure, the remote possibility of infection exists, along with the usual complications that can accompany surgery. As with any surgical procedure, in an effort to minimize the associated risks, it is important to follow all of Dr. Sheila Bond’s instructions pre and post-operatively.

You will be wearing a compression garment for the first week after your surgery. At your first post-op visit, you will definitely see a difference in your shape, even though you are still swollen. You will continue to see improvement over time with maximum – after about 6 months*.

A compression garment is a girdle-like garment that will compress the area that has been liposuctioned to keep down the swelling and help the skin heal back smoothly to the muscle.

It depends. If the skin on your pouch is stretched and wrinkly, it will look even more wrinkled after liposuction. You may need a tummy tuck to correct the problem.

Traditional Liposuction (PAL) is done with a cannula, a slim stainless-steel tube inserted into a small ½ inch opening in the skin. Saline fluid is injected into the area to pump up the fat and make it easier to remove. The fat is then sucked out by vacuum pressure from the desired area to create a smaller, smoother contour. It is usually done in the hospital under general anesthesia. Traditional Liposuction works well on large areas of fat like an abdomen or back.

SmartLipo® is done in our office with a local anesthetic. The diameter of the SmartLipo® fiber is the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen. It is inserted into a cannula and rather than suck out the fat as in traditional Liposuction, the laser melts the fat cells which will gradually leave the body. Dr. Bond takes an extra step using a Lipojet to remove the melted fat cells and speed healing. Most patients have their procedure on Friday and return to work on Monday. SmartLipo® works best on smaller areas of disproportionate fat like a chin, saddlebags, love handles and other troublesome areas.

Any surgery will cause the body to swell, especially in an area as large as the abdomen. The fat removed will be replaced by fluid which is heavier than fat. It’s a mistake to get on a scale right after surgery; you’ll definitely get a false read.

It depends upon you skin resiliency and the amount of fat that is being removed. If a large amount of fat is removed from an area, the skin may look a bit wrinkled. The laser heat in SmartLipo® has a tightening effect, so Dr. Bond recommends it for areas where the skin may need some help in healing smoothly.

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) includes Liposuction of the abdomen, waist and lower back to harvest fat and re-shape your waist and lower back and to create a beautiful new line down to your new butt. You can also add other areas of liposuction if you desire and recommended by Dr. Bond.

Within reason, Dr. Bond can add substantially to the size of your butt provided you have enough fat to harvest and move around. The B&A pictures on this website are good examples of this.

Dr. Bond usually harvests fat from the belly and waist, areas where a woman’s fat is most accessible. She also takes fat from the lower back to create a beautiful new line down to the new butt, and does liposuction to make some areas of the butt smaller to flow into the areas that are going to be larger. All of the fat can be used to increase and re-shape your butt.

It depends. If the skin on your pouch is stretched and wrinkly, it will look even more wrinkled after harvesting the fat. If you want your belly to be flat as a board, you may need a Tummy Tuck to correct the problem.

2. Sterile environment. When the fat cells are removed from the body, they must be kept in a completely sterile environment so that they do not contaminate and die. The Operating Room is the perfect sterile environment to keep the fat cells alive.

Yes. Dr. Bond can add fat to the upper part of your butt to create a fuller, “lifted” look, not wider, not much larger, just perkier like the butt you had when you were younger.

Unfortunately, a tummy tuck is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance.

It is unlikely that insurance will cover a tummy tuck since even after substantial weight loss from a lap band or other bariatric surgery, it is considered to be a cosmetic procedure.

Probably not. Exercise is great for cardio fitness and will tone your underlying muscles, but it won’t change stretched skin or remove fat without weight loss. You’ll need a tummy tuck to remove the excess skin, sew together the underlying muscles and —– the waist with liposuction as part of the procedure.

Yes, many women elect to have a hysterectomy and tummy tuck at the same time Dr. Bond does medical procedures (hysterectomy, fibroid removal, hernia surgery) at the same time as a tummy tuck or select other cosmetic surgery procedures. She will operate with a General Surgeon.

No. In order to remove the excess stretched skin from pregnancy or massive weight loss, you will have a scar from hip to hip where the skin is pulled down and removed. This will result in a beautiful, smooth contour of your new body.

No, Dr. Bond will make her incision(cut) at the site of the existing scar. After the surgery you will have one longer, but a minimized scar.

Yes. One on each side of the lower abdomen to remove excess fluids to keep down swelling; they are usually removed after about one week.

After about 4 weeks.

No abdominal exercises, crunches, sit-ups, planks, etc. for at least 3 months. After a month patients can return to walking.

Liposuction will remove excess fat from the area, but if your skin is stretched you will still have an abdominal pouch. Liposuction will make it flatter and less noticeable under clothes, but it will still be there.

Definitely! Dr. Bond will plicate (sew together) the abdominal muscles so she can pull smooth, tight skin over tight muscles.

No, but since the skin is pulled down to cover the opening of your navel, Dr. Bond will create a new opening to your original navel. She’s known for making pretty little “innies”.

For about 6-8 weeks, you will wear a compression garment to keep down swelling and help the skin adhere back smoothly to the muscle. Many patients choose to wear it even longer. They say that they actually feel more “put together” wearing a compression garment.

 Dr. Bond usually advises her tummy tuck patients to stay in the hospital overnight for your safety and comfort.

As with any patient who has a pre-existing medical condition, we will require that you get written clearance from your medical doctor.

Dr. Bond’s fee includes a year of follow up visits. It also includes any revisions that may be needed. After care is necessary so that the doctor can monitor your wound healing and scar control. Airports and planes are not the cleanest places in the world; it is possible to pick up an infection. When you get off the plane, you’re on your own. Your insurance will not cover complications from a cosmetic surgery. Adding in the additional fees for airfare, hotel and meals, it may be less of a bargain than you think.
